Compared to the fight against the SARS epidemic 18 years ago, China has made remarkable progress in the field of public health. The fact that Chinese scientists released the genetic sequence of the virus to the world in just 10 days is remarkable. In addition, more timely and accurate virus tracing, faster and more efficient mass testing and vaccination have demonstrated the achievements of China's continued investment in infectious disease prevention and control since 2003.

In the 18 years since SARS, China has established a national network of CDCs at the national, provincial, municipal and county levels, with more than 800,000 public health professionals responding to public health emergencies by a real-time reporting system and coordination network. In 2014, China sent a medical team of more than 1,200 clinicians and public health experts to Africa to help control the Ebola outbreak, and established a biosafety level 3 laboratory in Sierra Leone within 100 days. It should be noted that China's public health system has been significantly strengthened after the SARS epidemic, and this is the basis for China to effectively respond to and support the global fight against the new epidemic.
