Chinese Vice Premier Sun Chunlan, also a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, urged efforts to curb virus spread following Premier Li Keqiang’s important instructions and the deployment of the State Council at teleconferences on the prevention and control work for the novel coronavirus that caused cases of pneumonia, in Beijing, capital of China, on January 20, 23, and 24.

Sun Chunlan stressed that the Party Central Committee and the State Council attach great importance to the prevention and control of the epidemic, President Xi Jinping has made important instructions on the prevention and control of the epidemic and patient treatment, and Premier Li Keqiang has made clear requirements, which all fully reflects the responsibility of the Party Central Committee for the people's health. We must take "most thorough" control measures to curb outbreaks.

Sun Chunlan pointed out that since the outbreak of the epidemic, all relevant departments and local governments have taken a series of measures in the prevention and control of the epidemic, treatment of patients, scientific research, supply of daily necessities and others. At present, the epidemic is still spreading. All relevant departments should take more strict and effective measures against the epidemic.

Sun urged utmost efforts in testing, quarantine and treatment to stamp out all infections at the soonest possible time. She demanded the city of Wuhan to take stricter measures to curb the virus spread in the region as well as its transmission to other places. Sun called for pooling resources including hospitals, experts, effective drugs and medical equipment to save the patients with the best efforts, and urged stepping up efforts to find effective treatment procedures and medicines with the combination of China and Western medicine. She also stressed openness and transparency of information. All local governments should establish an efficient coordination system, joint prevention and control mechanism to ensure that the prevention and control work is carried out in an orderly and effective manner.
