Established in 2001, the Boao Forum for Asia is a non-governmental and non-profit international conference organization. Since its inception, with a focus on Asia and a global perspective, the Boao Forum for Asia has been committed to promoting regional cooperation in Asia and common development across the world. Apart from traditional economic issues, the conference has been focusing on health issues closely related to economic development and the people's well-being.
National health is not only an important indicator of a country's capability of sustainable development, but also an important topic on which the international community has reached a remarkable degree of consensus. The UN's 2030 Sustainable Development Goals have raised health to an even more prominent position, and taken "ensuring healthy life and promoting well-being for the whole population at all ages" as an important goal. Additionally, national health is an important factor for achieving economic growth. Healthcare has become one of the fastest growing sunrise industries in the world. All nations of the world have attached great importance to health issues and been vigorously developing the health cause and industry.
Meanwhile, global health is still facing unprecedented challenges such as obviously inadequate capital input, weak capability of coping with public health emergencies as well as imbalanced development of the health field. Over the years, major incidents related to health have constantly occurred, such as the major outbreaks of Ebola. The change of global disease spectrum and other related issues have attracted high attention from all the circles.
In this context, to promote the development of global health cause and industry, the Boao Forum for Asia decided to build a comprehensive platform with high representativeness and authoritativeness in the health field for high-end dialogues and practical cooperation that integrates governments, businesses and higher education institutions based on its features and advantages. In July 2018, the Boao Forum for Asia declared the inception of the Global Health Forum in Beijing.
